We expect our students to write all assignments in their planners daily. It is important that they develop a sense of responsibility and ownership for their decisions and actions (or lack thereof). All teachers at DES write homework assignments on the board for students to copy in their planners. We do modify work for our students, and those modifications should be written in the planner, on the assignment, or told to the student. Teachers do not write modifications on the board. We expect our students to complete all assignments and turn them in on time. While some teachers accept late assignments, some do not. You can't expect to pass if you aren't turning in assignments. Also, most social studies and science assignments will require the respective book to complete assignments correctly. Completing assignments with incorrect answers has almost the same result of not doing the assignment. The answers are in the book - I promise! Use your book to look up assignment questions - you may have to read a little. You'll survive, and your grades will thank you!
Of course things happen, schedules change, emergencies/surprises come up, and there may be a day when someone wasn't able to write down their assignments, or we weren't able to ensure that assignments were written completely/correctly in planners. Don't worry - this page on the site should have homework assignments for 4th - 8th grades.
I am working on a way for you to be able to submit questions about homework (after leaving school for the day) where I can answer them (on this site) so you don't have to wait until the next morning at school. For now, you can submit your question in the comment section of the daily assignments. If your question is posted by 8:30 p.m., I should have an explanation/answer for you by 10 p.m. If your question isn't on here by 8:30, I can't promise I'll see it or be able to answer it that evening. I have to implement a time frame for asking questions - I do have a little one, a life (sort of) and I am a fan of sleep :) *Please remember, I don't have a copy of your textbooks at home. If you're asking a Think and Search question (from a reading story I haven't read, science, or social studies), I can't really help you with that. Also, you know I'm not going to just give you an answer. Remember what we tell you in the classroom when you ask those questions: "Read your lesson. Look in the glossary. The answer is in the book!" I'm sure you're thinking, "Well, if you aren't giving me answers, then, what is the point of your so-called 'homework help?'" Good question - I can explain the process of working out math problems or the rules you need to remember for grammar. I'm not going to do your homework for you, but I'll be more than happy to help :)
I am hopeful this will help with our homework issues and cut down on missing/incomplete assignments, thus helping our grades :)
